Rachel Zaslow (r) & cousin Andrea (l)Rachel (r) & cousin at Earth Birth Fundraiser in San Diego

Rachel Zaslow is a midwife living in Brooklyn, NY and is the co-founder and director of Earth Birth (www.earth-birth.com). Earth Birth is an organization that supports women affected by war and trauma by working in community to create safe and peaceful birth experiences. Recently, Rachel was interviewed on GRITtv and I hope you will check it out, as it’s incredibly inspiring. Rachel’s interview starts at about 32:30 and can be watched here: http://blip.tv/file/1842150

Earth Birth was chosen as Lovemore’s first philanthropic partner, and it was one of the easiest decisions we had to make. It has always been our intention to donate a portion of our proceeds to organizations that embody the Lovemore mission. Earth Birth does just that with an integrity and commitment that is undeniably a demonstration of choosing love more. To that point, you may notice that Rachel wore one of her Lovemore t-shirts for the interview. Love-ly. Right now every single t-shirt, hoodie, onesie, bag or bottle that you purchase at Lovemore results in a donation to Earth Birth.

I met Rachel when I was a labor and delivery nurse at Roosevelt Hospital here in New York city. She transferred a laboring woman to the hospital and it was there in the middle of the night, over labor, and pushing, and birth, that we began a friendship. At the time she mentioned that she was doing birth work in Uganda and I told her that I had always dreamed of doing something like that and wondered if maybe someday I could come help out. Though I haven’t been to Africa yet, I looked Rachel up when Angela and I founded Lovemore with the hopes of offering support through our social entrepreneurship venture while I work on getting myself there in person.

So there’s the story of Earth Birth and why we love to love*Earth Birth*more. I’m so happy to share with you the work of this amazing woman, the story and images of the community she is working with, and the opportunity to support Earth Birth. You can also make a donation directly to Earth Birth via their site.
